3 ~ Wide Open Way

When we are uncertain, we often make our world smaller. We look for certainty. We make more plans. We try to work out what might happen before it does. And slowly, we can end up staying inside what we already know.

But not everything can be known from where you are standing now.
Some things only reveal themselves when you begin to move.
A conversation takes you somewhere unexpected.
A delay changes what becomes possible.
Something you thought you wanted falls away.
Something you could never have planned appears.

The Wide Open Way is not about giving your life over to chance.
You still choose.
You still listen.
You still take the next step.

But you don’t need to see the whole road before you begin. There is room for your choice, and there is room for life to meet you.| And sometimes, what meets you is something you could never have imagined from where you started.

Notice where you have made the path too narrow.
Where have you decided there are only one or two ways forward?
Where are you trying to work out exactly how something must happen?
Where are you trying to see the end of a road you have only just begun?

Let the edges soften.
Imagine the landscape opening around you. You don’t need to find another road. You don’t need to make another plan.
Just allow more space.

Stay there for a moment.
You do not need the future to show itself all at once.
Some things can only become visible as you move towards them.
